// COMPLIANCE IS MANDATORY

Server Rules

Read them before you connect. If something isn’t covered here, use common sense and ask a staff member.

Last updated

Acceptance of the rules

Joining our game server or Discord means you accept these rules, and on Discord the Discord Community Guidelines as well. The rules apply to everyone, staff included, and not knowing a rule is no excuse: it won’t get you out of a punishment or make one lighter. Breaking the rules can lead to anything from a warn to a permanent ban (4.1).

Have fun

It’s a game

Make sure to have fun, and don’t forget this is a game. Your characters can be enemies, but the players behind them are not, so leave in-character conflict in character.

General server conduct

Server and Discord rules

Users must follow both the server and Discord rules. Any breach of these rules will result in punishment by the administration team.

Discord guidelines

Being part of our Discord means you abide by our rules and the Discord Community Guidelines. Any breach of those guidelines is a breach of our rules.

Defamation and spam

Defaming individual players will result in a temporary or permanent ban, depending on severity. Spamming players in or out of the server can lead to a permanent ban. Respect players’ privacy and boundaries, and act accordingly.

Reporting rule breaks

If you witness a player breaking the rules, report it to staff immediately with /support in game. If it happens on our Discord, DM or ping a member of the staff team to resolve it.

1.1 Disrespectful behaviour

Respectful conduct

Disrespectful behaviour is not acceptable. Users are expected to conduct themselves respectfully at all times, across all of our services.

Toxicity

Toxicity is prohibited on our services. Users are expected to stay polite and respectful towards other players who wish to voice their opinion, and to keep a positive attitude.

Bullying

Any form of bullying on our services is prohibited. Users found bullying another player will receive a warn or ban at an administrator’s discretion, depending on severity.

1.2 Derogatory remarks and adult content

Derogatory remarks

Negative or derogatory remarks about a user’s race, religion, gender, sexual preference, sexual orientation or gender identity are strictly forbidden. This applies across all of our services, both in and out of character.

Adult content

Adult content, such as pornography, real death or gore, is prohibited.

Gore and shock content

Gore and shock content is prohibited.

Abusive content

Abusive content is forbidden.

Extreme ideology

Any form of extreme ideology is prohibited.

Sexual communication and ERP

Sexual communication or erotic roleplay (ERP) with other users is forbidden.

1.3 Staff abuse and reports

Reporting staff abuse

If you see a staff member abusing their power, you may report them to our management team. Explain what the issue is and give a fully detailed account of what happened. Evidence such as photos and videos can be added to help management with their investigation.

Ticket misuse

Our in-game ticket system (/support) is to be treated with respect and used to report users who have broken the server rules. Misusing it in a way that takes up staff members’ time can lead to a warn or ban at an administrator’s discretion.

Compensation requests

Compensation requests require photo or video evidence. Failing to provide this evidence will lead to your request being denied by management and the loss of your items.

1.4 Administration

Volunteer staff

Our staff are unpaid volunteers who give their own time to keep the server running. Treat them with the same respect as any other player: being disrespectful or rude to staff will not be tolerated and is punishable by a warn or ban.

Sits

When you are taken to a sit, you are expected to be fully truthful and cooperative with the administrator, and you must stay until the sit is over. Players are not allowed to evade the rules in any way.

Note

Do not take matters into your own hands or impede administration team members in their duties. This includes backseating administration, assuming administrator duties, and pointing out the presence of on-duty staff members to others.

Ban evasion

Any attempt to evade our moderation systems, such as bans and warns, is strictly prohibited. This includes evading a ban with another account: users found doing so will have both their main account and the second account permanently banned.

Leaving to avoid punishment (LTAP)

Disconnecting from our services to avoid a punishment is strictly forbidden, along with any use of a second or “backup” account. Doing so will get you warned or banned depending on severity.

1.5 Data security and personal data

Personal information

We take data security and personal data seriously. We will not tolerate the disclosure of personal information, or any attempt to obtain another user’s personal information. This rule protects passwords, addresses, photographs, phone numbers and IP addresses.

Note

Staff may use connection data, such as IP addresses, only to detect alternate accounts and ban evasion (1.4), and must never share it. Otherwise, management and server staff are forbidden, under any circumstances, from accessing a user’s personal data through our services. Staff who breach this rule will be demoted and permanently banned from our services.

Malicious activity

Causing or inciting a significant breach of the peace and stability of our services, in any way, is forbidden. This includes DDoS attacks, abusing exploits, using scripts or macros, cheating, and any other malicious activity such as stealing player data or harming our services. Offenders will receive a permanent community ban and lose all access to our services.

1.6 Common sense

Common sense

Many things might not be in the rules. Use common sense, and contact an administrator if you’re unsure about something.

1.7 Communication disruption

Disrupting communication

Disrupting communication in any way is not acceptable. Every user has the right to speak and should be given the chance to share their thoughts. Off-topic material, such as spam or playing loud music and sounds, is prohibited.

Note

Improper use of the soundboard on our Discord is forbidden. If you use the soundboard, respect other users’ wishes and stop when asked. Failing to do so falls under the disrespectful behaviour rule (1.1) and will get you timed out for a length of time depending on severity.

1.8 Accounts and characters

Real-money trading

Buying or selling in-game items, money or characters for real money, or for anything outside the game, is not allowed.

Account sharing

Your account is yours alone. Do not share, sell or hand over your account; you are responsible for anything done on it.

Your own characters

Your characters are separate people. Do not pass items, money or knowledge between your own characters, either directly or through another player.

ExampleDropping items with one character, then switching to another to pick them up.

Roleplay conduct

2.1 Naming your character

Realistic names

All character names should be realistic and sensible. Memes, pop culture references and famous names are not permitted. You may include a title such as Dr or Jr.

Example“Daniel Kovač” or “Dr Elena Petrova” is fine; “Walter White”, “John Cena” or “Xx_Sniper_xX” is not.

Capitalisation

RP names must be properly capitalised.

Example“Anna Weber”, not “anna weber” or “ANNA WEBER”.

Canon names

Canon names and characters are not allowed. This applies to surnames but not to first names.

ExampleYou can be a Gordon or an Eli, but not a Freeman, a Vance or a Breen.

2.2 General roleplay

Staying in setting

Roleplay that does not relate to HL2RP is generally not allowed. If the staff team feels an action, group or RP situation is not relevant to HL2, it may be removed at an administrator’s discretion.

English only

Our server is English only. Make sure you speak English when using our services.

FailRP

All users are expected to follow the server rules and play as their character. Failing to play as your character falls under the FailRP rule and can get you warned or banned for a length of time.

Metagaming

Using information you learned out of character (OOC) while in character (IC) is metagaming. Metagaming will not be tolerated under any circumstances and can lead to a warn or ban at an administrator’s discretion, depending on severity.

ExampleA friend tells you on Discord where a rebel base is, and your character goes straight to it.

Note

If your character dies, anything they knew about codes, base locations, deaths, player hiding spots and the like must be forgotten. The same applies after a team switch, or after being raided once. If a raid was planned but has not taken place yet, the time can be extended as long as the administration is aware of it.

Third-party metagaming

Metagaming through third parties is strictly forbidden. Users found using third-party services for meta information will be warned or banned at an administrator’s discretion.

ExampleCalling out a Combine patrol’s position to your squad over a Discord call when your characters have no way of knowing it.

IC channels

Voice chat, text chat, yelling and radio are IC systems only. They must be used for IC roleplay, not OOC purposes. Use OOC and LOOC for anything not related to HL2RP.

Letters

All letters are assumed to be signed in character by their creator.

Note

On maps without a letter chute or another way to deliver messages to the CA, /pm may be used to send letters to the CA. Letters sent in character through /pm are also expected to be signed by their creator.

Voice chat in sits

In-game voice chat is used for out-of-character communication with staff only during a sit.

Overheard voices and IC names

Voices and noises heard through walls are not meta-protected, and neither are IC names.

2.3 General roleplay, continued

Job abuse

Switching jobs to obtain better rations is strictly prohibited. This is considered job abuse and will get you warned.

Powergaming

Forcing your roleplay onto someone through /me is considered powergaming.

Example/me rips the gun from their hand and knocks them out, which leaves the other player no chance to respond.

Bunnyhopping

Bunnyhopping is strictly not allowed.

Consent

/me should only be used on another player if both parties agree to the roleplay beforehand. Do not force a player to roll, or do /me’s or /it’s involving them, until they have given consent.

Using /it

/it is for describing the environment and objects. Make sure it is not misused.

Example/it The streetlight above the checkpoint flickers and goes out.

CWU adverts

CWU workers must make sure their adverts are realistic, appropriate and fit what the company is selling. Misusing adverts counts as FailRP (2.2).

Camping

Rebels must not camp teleporters. They must also not camp Nexus gates unless Nexus raid permission has been given.

2.4 Valuing life and reason to kill

FearRP

FearRP should be followed and respected. If your character is at gunpoint, outgunned, and escape is not possible, comply with the requests of whoever is holding you at gunpoint. OTA are exempt from this rule, as they lack cognitive function.

ExampleThree Civil Protection officers have their weapons on you, so you raise your hands instead of reaching for yours.

IED bombings

Anyone carrying out an IED bombing is exempt from FearRP.

New Life Rule (NLR)

When your character dies, they forget how they died and who killed them. The wait before you respawn is your NLR: once you are back, do not return to a scene that is still running where you died.

Notes

If you cannot get around the area where you died, you may pass through it, but must not stop or get involved while the scene is still running.

If you were a rebel before you died, do not give Combine players information about a location you learned in your previous life during the same session.

Random deathmatch (RDM)

Killing players without a good IC reason is RDM. Make sure all PvP has a good reason; if you cannot give staff one, it falls under RDM.

ExampleShooting a citizen because they bumped into you.

Self-defence

Self-defence is allowed if a Civil Protection or OTA member tells a citizen to get on the wall. Self-defence is not allowed in the Nexus on any map.

Self-defence baiting

Self-defence baiting is not permitted under any circumstances.

ExampleProvoking someone until they attack you, just so you can kill them in “self-defence”.

Defending a friend

Members of a group in the Factions tab (TAB menu) may claim defence of a friend. The person being defended must be in the same group as their defender.

Trespassers

Occupants of a property must give 3 clear warnings to anyone they want out of their private home or base before engaging the trespasser in combat. Defending your home or base against a Civil Protection raid is also a valid reason to fight back.

Being reported

Being reported to the Combine by a loyalist or citizen is a valid reason to kill, for a limited time of 5 minutes.

Mugging

Mugging RP is forbidden unless both parties agree to the mugging beforehand.

PvP against Combine

Any citizen may fight Combine players without special gear, as long as they have a valid IC reason. Fighting them without one is RDM.

Spawn areas

Any form of PvP in the spawn area is forbidden.

Note

At the train station, the first set of doors does not count as spawn; the second set does.

Property defence baiting

Killing people by baiting a defence of a property, an item or the like is not allowed. This applies to self-defence as well.

ExampleLuring someone into your base so you can kill them as a trespasser.

2.5 Combat

Crouch spamming

Spamming crouch during combat to obscure your hitbox is not allowed under any circumstances and will get you warned.

Note

Spam jumping is also forbidden. General ducking and weaving is allowed in combat.

Combat healing

Healing a teammate or yourself while being shot at or close by is strictly forbidden. This rule applies to everyone, Combine and rebels alike. Health vials are exempt.

Combat building

Spawning props while being shot at by other players is not allowed. Breaking this rule will result in a warn or ban depending on severity.

2.6 Props and physics

Prop killing

Using props to hurt, kill or push players is not allowed. This includes dropping, throwing or launching props at them. Breaking this rule will result in a warn or ban depending on severity.

ExampleDropping a crate from a balcony onto a patrol passing below.

Prop climbing

Stacking props, building pieces or dropped items to climb somewhere you could not reach on foot is not allowed, even for a moment. Permanent structures that do this fall under out-of-bounds access (3.1).

ExampleStacking crates against a fence to get over it instead of using the gate.

Prop blocking

Blocking doors, stairs or streets with props so that players cannot pass, or trapping players with props, is not allowed. Barricades must stay chest height and bases must keep an entrance (3.1).

ExamplePlacing a wall section in a doorway so the people inside cannot get out.

Physgun and toolgun

If you have physgun or toolgun access, use it only for building, and never during combat (2.5). Freeze your props once they are in place, as anyone can pick up a loose prop and throw it at other players.

Throwing and shoving

Throwing items and shoving players are roleplay actions, not weapons. Do not use them to harass players, to push someone off a ledge or into danger, or to break up a scene.

ExampleShoving a player off a rooftop instead of roleplaying the fight.

Using /unstuck

Only use /unstuck when you are genuinely stuck in a wall, a prop or the floor. Using it for anything else, such as getting out of a roleplay situation, is not allowed.

Other exploits

Using any other game, map or physics bug to gain an advantage, such as glitching into walls or under the map, is not allowed. If you find one, report it to staff with /support instead of using it. Exploits that harm the server or other players, such as duplicating items or crashing the server, count as malicious activity (1.5).

2.7 Staying in roleplay

Combat logging

Disconnecting during combat or an active scene to escape what happens next is combat logging, and will result in a warn or ban depending on severity. Leaving the server while your character is downed gives you an automatic 24-hour ban.

ExampleQuitting the game while Civil Protection are putting zip ties on you.

Note

If the automatic ban happened because your game crashed, appeal it on the portal (4.3). Leaving to avoid a staff punishment is covered separately by LTAP (1.4).

Going AFK

Do not go AFK or leave in the middle of a scene other players are involved in. If you have to go, tell them in LOOC first.

Roleplay first

If you think someone broke the rules during a scene, finish the scene and report it afterwards with /support. Only staff can pause or stop a scene. Serious breaches, such as harassment, can be reported straight away.

Refusing roleplay

You cannot refuse a search, an arrest or restraints just by saying no out of character. Resist in character if it is realistic, within FearRP (2.4), or go along with it. Dragging a scene out on purpose is not allowed either.

Note

The consent rule (2.3) covers /me actions, not searches, arrests or restraints done with the game’s own tools.

2.8 Kidnapping and downed players

Kidnapping

Kidnapping someone with zip ties or a headbag needs a valid IC reason, and you must keep roleplaying with your hostage the whole time. Kidnapping someone to rob them counts as mugging (2.4).

ExampleTying up a citizen and leaving them alone in a basement while you go and do something else.

Hold time

A kidnapped player may be held for at most 30 minutes, after which you must release them or end the scene, unless they agree to continue. This does not apply to Civil Protection detention.

Finishing off downed players

Do not kill a downed player without a valid IC reason. Everything they carry drops to their body when they die, so finishing someone off just to loot them counts as RDM (2.4).

2.9 Using faction powers

Arrests, searches and BOLs

Civil Protection need a valid IC reason to arrest, search or detain someone, or to put out a BOL (a wanted notice). Being arrested without one can be reported as RDA with /support.

Faction gear and powers

Combine equipment, terminals and powers are for your faction’s duties only. Using them for personal gain or to settle personal grudges is not allowed.

ExampleSearching a citizen only to take their items for yourself.

Base and building guidelines

Unrealistic building

Any form of unrealistic building can be taken down at the request of the administration team.

3.1 Realistic building and barricades

Realistic materials

All buildings must be realistic. For example, Combine and rebel bases must use their respective materials.

Purposeless builds

Text screens and buildings that serve no purpose or meaning may be removed at the administration’s discretion.

Text screens

Text screens must read as realistic advertising, such as “Open for business” or “Buy 1 get 1 free”. Unrealistic text screens can be deleted at the administration’s discretion.

DarkRP bases

Any form of DarkRP base is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, maze bases, crouch bases and force-jump bases. Any base the administration considers to resemble these can be taken down.

Propaganda

Rebels may put up propaganda using text screens or EGPs. Excessive use may result in the propaganda being deleted at the staff team’s discretion.

Rebel signs

Rebels must not put up signs in the city advertising their group, weapon sales or the like. This restriction covers the city only; such signs may be placed in:

  • Sewers
  • Shops and stores affiliated with a rebel group from the Factions tab, or one of its members
  • Slums
Out-of-bounds access

Any structure built to reach an inaccessible part of the map is strictly prohibited. This includes rooftops, areas behind barricades and the like.

Skybox bases

Any base requested to be built in the skybox needs UA approval.

Barricades

Barricades must be chest height, so that players firing from behind them are exposed and can reasonably be damaged.

Lights

Bright lights and lens-flare lights must not be placed on barricades or checkpoints.

One-way materials

One-way materials are not permitted under any circumstances.

Entrances

Bases must have at least one entrance or exit.

Base space

All rebel bases must have enough space for 2 players to stand side by side. The only exception is a doorway prop; abusing this will result in punishment.

3.2 Raiding

Raided bases

If your base is raided by a Combine force, it may be deleted by staff.

When bases are deleted

Where reasonable, the base will be deleted once all defending forces have lost or died.

Destroying a base

Combine forces must realistically remove or destroy a base to bring it down. This must be supervised by staff.

Punishments and appeals

4.1 Punishments

Warn

A warning from staff. Minor ones are given verbally in game; repeated or serious ones are also noted on your record.

Kick

Removes you from the server on the spot, usually to stop a rule break while it is still happening. You can reconnect afterwards.

Ban

Blocks you from the game server for a set number of days, or permanently. Your bans are listed on your portal dashboard.

Community ban

A permanent ban from every Singularity service, including the game server and the portal. It is used for the most serious breaches, such as malicious activity (1.5).

Discord timeout

Temporarily stops you from talking on our Discord, for example for soundboard misuse (1.7).

4.2 How punishments are decided

Severity

Punishments match the severity of the rule break. Staff cannot give a heavy punishment for a minor one.

Repeat breaks

Breaking the rules again leads to harsher punishments. Earlier warns and punishments on your record are taken into account.

Uncovered situations

Where the rules do not cover a situation, the decision is up to the administrator, and it can be appealed (4.3). Use common sense (1.6) and ask staff if you’re unsure.

4.3 Appeals

Appealing a punishment

If you think a punishment was wrong, open a ticket on the portal: choose Ban Appeal for a ban, or General Support for anything else. Explain what happened and include any evidence you have.

Note

If staff reply and you don’t answer within 48 hours, the ticket times out.

Time limit

Appeals must be made within 7 days of the punishment. Later appeals are declined.

Community bans

Community-banned players cannot sign in to the portal. If you believe a community ban was issued in error, contact a Community Manager on our Discord.

Staff complaints

If you think a staff member abused their power, open a Staff Complaint ticket on the portal. It is reviewed by our management team (1.3).

Unsure about a rule?

Ask an administrator, in game or on our Discord.
